Flat Cast Iron Grates

The grates are cast from grey cast iron 422420. The grates are 15 mm thick.

They can be modified by cutting (with an angle grinder using a cutting disc for cast iron, as well as more readily available discs for steel and stainless steel), grinding, drilling and milling.

The dimensions are given in Vienna inches.

(1 Vienna inch = 26.34 mm).

Important!

The grates must always be installed so that the widening gap faces towards the ash pan. Otherwise, the grate becomes clogged.

The grates should always be selected slightly smaller. When heated, they expand due to thermal expansion. A clearance of 5 mm is sufficient for smaller grates, while larger grates may require up to 7 mm.

The grates are not intended for appliances where coke is used as fuel. Briquettes with an oily binder are also at the limit of their suitability.

The grates are also not intended as replacements for original grates in modern gasification boilers, where high temperatures are used even when burning wood and grates specifically designed for this purpose are used.
